Hi there,

I'm Ashley Neill, the lead photographer and owner of Neill Studios. I am passionate about creating photographs that surprise and delight! I started Neill Studios in 2019, but have enjoyed taking photographs and digitally editing photos/videos as a hobby for over 15 years. I am a North Carolina girl, born and raised, and I enjoy traveling to all sorts of places near and far. I am so grateful that I can share my passion and skills with people just like you to create something totally unique and one-of-a-kind - just like you :)

I welcome new clients of all walks of life! Let's explore together.

My Story

It is rumored that my first word was actually "camera". As a young girl, I always tried to find reasons to use my parents' old digital cameras and camcorders. It always fascinated me how I could take a photo to capture a brief moment of reality, or edit an image to create a new one! I loved taking all sorts of photos- of my family, of my friends, of my pets, and even of myself (this was before "selfies" were a thing...) on my tiny old digital camera. I carried it everywhere. Many of my hours as a teenager were spent learning how to use Photoshop.  I often hunted for old and unique film cameras at thrift stores, and one time I even tried some wet-plate photography.

One of the reasons I enjoy photography over other artistic mediums is because of the balance between science and art. When you consider film photography, there is a lot of chemistry involved and I think it's fascinating. There are also many technical aspects involved with selecting lenses, choosing camera settings, and editing photos. I bring a new and unique perspective to my work since I come from a very technical background - I am a degreed chemist and spent many years working as a paint chemist, studying color theory and paint formulations. After I left that role, I decided to pursue photography because my husband was taking a photography course for his degree. Seeing him work with different cameras on different projects allowed me to rediscover my love for my creative work. I feel that this profession is a perfect match for my skill set, where I am able to seamlessly blend my love for both art and science.

I love working with all sorts of people and have an extensive customer service background. I can get along with pretty much anyone and I prefer to see the best in people! My ideal client won't mind a little bit of risk to get the right shot, even if it means they might get rained on (this is a true story...sorry Shivani). They also won't mind acting a little silly to loosen up and get an authentic smile. If you are an animal lover, an adventurer, or someone who prefers to text instead of call, I think we might be an excellent match for working together.

I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect.
